Ultrasound first came to the U.S. from Europe in the early 1950s. It bcame a popular modality and has remained quite popular because it is easy to use, relatively safe and can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions. It is used primarlily for deep heat.
Ultrasound is actually a high frequency sound wave, so high that it cannot be heard by the human ear. Ultrasound is made when an electrical current is carried into the sound head of the machine and causes the cristal inside to vibrate rapidly. This "sound" then goes from the sound head into the patient's body and causes the tissues to vibrate. The vibration creates heat in the body where the sound head is applied.
Cold laser therapy
In our clinic we have an ML830 Cold laser. It was designed by a team of doctors and leading medical engineers to harness the therapeutic application of advanced low energy laser technology. The ML830 is a handheld non-invasive, low energy, therapeutic laser. It produces infrared laserlight at the 830nm (nanometer) wavelength and is classified by the FDA as a Class IIIB medical device. The ML830 Laser is a non-thermal laser capable of penetrating 5 cm deep into tissue. Once delivered, the light energy promotes the process of photobiostimulation. In human tissue the resulting photochemical reaction produces an increase in the cellular metabolism rate that expedites cell repair and the stimulation ot the immune, lymphatic and vascular systems. The net result, observed in clinical trials to date, is the apparent reduction in pain, inflammation, edema and an overall reduction in healing time.
